Description

This position is a full-time administrative position that serves as the lead information liaison between the district and the community at large, and is responsible for the dissemination of information and public relations in various formats. Coordinates, produces and manages all digital and print publications, including district social media accounts, attends and promotes district events and functions including School Board Meetings, responds to media inquiries, and assists with the production of video content, public presentations, school and district newsletters, and announcements, etc. A significant part of the job is to serve as the site administrator and content editor of the school district website as well as develop informational and public relations content for district-wide use.

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Serves as information liaison between the total school system and the community at large and speaks at public and community meetings on issues of general or specific pertinence to District schools and programs at the request of the superintendent.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and abides by federal, state and local school laws and regulations, mandated programs, district policies and administrative regulations and applicable collective bargaining agreements with district employees. Recommend changes to district policies or administrative regulations relative to communications.
  • Coordinates all District publications (except student publications) including the district calendar, social media, quarterly newsletters, promotional brochures, informational materials for new staff and parents and any additional special publications.
        • Is proficient with Microsoft, google, adobe, and Canva software applications.
        • Is proficient with generating, disseminating and mailing large mass notifications and newsletter materials both digitally and in print.
  • Coordinates the promotion and management of District events, celebratory staff programs, and employee recognition events, as needed. Manages District communications with parents, staff and students via several electronic mediums, including a mass parent notification system and various social networking sites.
  • Serves as the site administrator and content editor of the District Web site.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with all community organizations; maintains an updated file of community organizations and their officers, mailing lists of community volunteers, and contact information on local officials/politicians; and provides prompt responses to requests for public information about the District, Board, policies and programs.
  • Stays abreast of professional practices in the field.
  • Coordinates and hosts several annual events for the community, staff and parents and utilizes total quality management concepts in fulfilling all school and community functions as requested.
  • Assists the Superintendent with the development of visuals and content for public presentations.
  • Manages and assists school employees with use of social media accounts and constant contact electronic mailings.
  • Attends school board meetings and converses with interested attendees on inquiries as necessary.
    • Responds to inquiries from media outlets.
    • Assists the Superintendent with district-wide employee functions.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws

Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications or related field
  • Prior experience as a public relations officer or communications specialist highly preferred
  • Current Act 34, 114 and 151 clearances
